XL Video stages Presentations for VW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz

At this year's Motor Show in Detroit, XL Video Deutschland assisted three major German manufacturers: VW, Audi and Mercedes Benz all put their faith in the media technology specialists. The XL Video team was engaged by the three German companies, all major players in the global market, as media equipment general service providers for the international trade fair that ran from the 11th to the 25th January 2009. The commissions involved the provision of all media and LED equipment for the booths of VW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz, the provision of HD control rooms for the VW and Audi press conferences, and the presentation of the new E-Class from Mercedes-Benz in the Westin Hotel, Detroit, on the eve of the first press day.

For the appearance by Volkswagen, XL Video chose a 4-mm Hibino Black Face comprising seventy modules and measuring 5376 x 2880 mm (W x H) for the main video wall. This high-resolution screen was framed by over 100 square metres of Barco MiTRIX LEDs comprising over 1,400 individual modules and forming a media band ringing the booth. At the press conference on the first press day, XL Video deployed a complete Flightcase Broadcast HD control room with four Thompson LDX 8000 camera production units (one of them as SteadyCam) and a Grass Valley Kayak HD four M/E mixer.

The Audi booth featured four 103" Panasonic displays, which XL Video installed upright behind glass. Behind optical glass and with accompanying sound, the MiSTRIP special construct "The Heart of Audi" created an unusual atmosphere. Exhibits in which the interaction of a 42" HD display and Olite 510 units conveyed the dynamism of Audi vehicles proved particularly successful in attracting attention. As a highlight to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of Audi, there was a further special construct with optical acrylic components projecting from the wall and furnished with a 25-square-metre, creatively configured F LED 11 with a pixel pitch of 11mm and 7000 cd/m2 that weighed a mere 375 kilos!

For the Audi press conference, XL Video deployed a forty-eight-module Hibino 6-mm LED screen, an HD broadcast control room, three LDK8000 camera production units, an LDK8000 SteadyCam, a PoleCam and a complete dubber with 14 MAZ systems.

For the Mercedes-Benz presentation in the Cobo Hall, XL Video used a sixty-module Hibino 6-mm Black Face screen as the main media surface. This was complemented by 576 Barco MiTRIX LED tiles. The content was supplied by DVS HD Pronto systems directed by V-Control. The various theme elements were reproduced on a 50" Full HD plasma screen and a 24" touch screen as well as on other types of media equipment.

In the course of the New Year's reception, Mercedes-Benz treated almost 600 invited journalists to a preview of the new E-Class in the Ballroom of the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel. There too, XL Video was responsible for providing all the media equipment. This included two Hibino 6-mm Black Face video walls with twenty-four modules each as well as eight Panasonic PT-DZ 12000 high-performance projectors. In addition to these, more than twenty Mitsubishi 46" Full HD plasmas were installed on floor stands in various rooms of the hotel to provide every visitor with an uninterrupted flow of information.

In all, XL Video Deutschland was represented in Detroit by a team of over 35 employees working on the various events; they included project managers, LED and media technicians, broadcast specialists and camera operators. In the area of playback and control too, XL Video was setting new standards: the equipment was controlled by eight complete media controllers. In all, some twenty-six DVS Pronto HD players, upon which the content for the individual LED and plasma systems was stored, were used in Detroit.
