Two sold-out shows at the hallowed London venue 8th and 9th November saw ecstatic fans surround a central stage as dazzling as the man’s own charisma.“I certainly felt this was a career highlight,” said production manager Joel Stanley. “Bronski, (creative director) and I had a long chat; the show would be streamed live so we knew it had to be the best quality for everything. Time was short, we hit the ground running, there was no time for introductions.”Two intense production meetings later saw Video Design chosen to supply the stunning four-sided LED display above stage that Bronski conceived to contextualise the energy of AJ Tracey’s performance beneath it. Neg Earth supplied lights and rigging, while SSE provided sound. “Bronski’s creative side knows no bounds,” continued Stanley. “He confounds us all with ever more amazing platforms for his performers. Choosing vendors we have worked with before like Neg Earth, SSE and Video Design proved pivotal; most of the crew chiefs knew each other from jobs they had done with me previously. When planning time is short such relationships are crucial.”“Video Design are a good example of what we needed,” continued Stanley. “Bronski and I agreed they would give more care and attention to the job. That’s what made this work so well. Come load-in, low and behold Alex (Leinster) was there, getting his hands dirty. I’m not sure I could say that about other video company CEOs. That’s where pressure gets released. On a central stage when all departments are working in the same space stresses can arise. Yes, we had a couple of small hiccups in our plan, but I never once heard anyone shouting, everyone worked harmoniously. I won’t be forgetting this show in a while. I’m very grateful to Alex and the other suppliers for helping us pull this off. A terrific show for a terrific performer.”photo: Scott GarfittTheatres Trust awards £25,000 to five theatres across the UK to address the challenges small theatres faceTheatres Trust has awarded vital funding to five more theatres. I am thrilled Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation funding can target these urgent repairs for theatres across the UK under the guidance of Theatres Trust expertise.”Launched in April 2012, the UK Small Theatres Grants Scheme awards grants of up to £5,000 to theatres across the UK to address urgent building works and improvements. Situated on the border between England and Wales is the Chirk Canal Aqueduct & Railway viaduct which is a part of the entire route. This aqueduct was finished in 1801 and has been an important landmark and way of transportation for the region ever since. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site the Welsh Canal & River Trust wanted to do something special.Highlite’s customer Enlightened Lighting was commissioned through winning a competitive tender process put forward by those leading the project: The Glandŵr Cymru, The Canal & River Trust in Wales on behalf of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct & Canal World Heritage Site Partnership. The project formed an exciting challenge for Enlightened Lighting and for their light designer, mr. Ben Dodds. He incorporated 36 units of the Showtec Helix S5000 into the setup and this is the reason why: “Enlightened’s continued investment in pro equipment such as the Helix S5000 Q4s enabled the team to fully realise their design at Chirk Aqueduct. The team chose the Helix’s because of their high brightness, ease of changing lenses and the range of beam shaping accessories that they come with out of the box. Some of the arches are almost 30m tall, so it was vital to have a fixture that’s bright enough, had the right lens choices and that could withstand the damp & muddy conditions on site.”The decision to use the Helix S5000 fixtures was a perfect one. Every evening from 7.30pm - 9.30pm between 7 October and 27 October the stunning effect of 36 powerful fixtures could be witnessed on and around the 200 year old World Heritage Site.www.highlite.comIntroducing YIMSA, a Dedicated Online Tool to Simplify Background Music System DesignDesigning a successful background music (BGM) system, even for small spaces, is usually seen as something that only a professional systems integrator can do, adding both cost and time to a project. Just introduced by Chauvet Professional, the 480W cool white moving spot fixture, which will be showcased at the company’s LDI booth (937), takes outdoor reliability to a new level, not just with its IP65 rating, but also with aluminium alloy housing, marine grade 316 stainless steel screws, M12 Gore valves and a sun shield optical protection system.Rain or shine, the Maverick Storm 1 Spot delivers a flat even field of light with variable CMY + CTO colour mixing to create a wide palette of colours. Designers will enjoy a range of creative options with this fixture, thanks to features like its 8° to 48° zoom angle and field angle, 16-bit dimming for smooth control of fades, five-facet motorised and rotating prism, animation wheel, iris for beam control, and independently controlled light and medium frosts. In keeping with its flexible design, the versatile Maverick Storm 1 Spot offers a wide array of gobo options. The fixture has seven glass rotating and indexable gobos on Wheel 1 and nine metal static gobos on Wheel 2.Compact enough to allow easy installation on any rig (it weighs in at just 38.19kg or 84.2lbs.), the Maverick Storm 1 Spot is nevertheless powerful enough to punch through the light from other fixtures or video panels on stage. The new Rogue R2X Wash fixture from Chauvet Professional offers an excellent example of that. Debuting at this year’s LDI show (booth 945), this extremely bright, updated version of the popular Rogue R2 Wash was developed in response to a very recent advance in LED lamp technology.“We recognised the potential of the new generation of LEDs that OSRAM is developing, so we made a commitment to updating our fixtures to incorporate this technological advance,” said Albert Chauvet, CEO of Chauvet.Drawing on this new technology, the Rogue R2X Wash is almost twice as bright as the Rogue R2 Wash when producing a single colour, and 20 per cent brighter at full output. This impressive brightness boost has been achieved without changing the fixture’s DMX profile and with no changes to its popular form factor. The Rogue R2X Wash is powered by 19 of the new OSRAM 25W RGBW LEDs. This engine produces a brightness of 8,650 lux measured at five metres. Thanks to a calibrated white mode that has been added to the new fixture, its output is balanced to roughly 7,000k when it is brought up to full intensity.Another new enhancement to the fixture is the addition of RDM. The Rogue R2X Wash also makes it possible for users to set their own calibration via the fixture’s menu, so they can match its output to other lights in their rig. Additionally, five zones of pixel control allow users to create stunning pixel mapping effects.“Our industry is technology driven,” said Chauvet. “As a company, we can never stand still. This is the driving force behind the Rogue R2X Wash.”Area Four Industries acquires ProlyteSince its establishment in 1991, Prolyte has been a leading brand in the production of temporary structures for the entertainment industry.
