Doughty Engineering awards future star at annual gala dinner

UK – Doughty Engineering has awarded an aspiring performing arts student for his achievements at a gala dinner hosted by Brockenhurst College. Cayton Francis was chosen to receive the accolade at the awards ceremony on 15th September,

Cayton stood out as an active member of the performing arts department, and Tara Gadd, head of curriculum – performing arts and music, said: “I couldn’t think of a better person to receive the award. Cayton's commitment to his craft far outreaches his course requirements.”

Tara added: “We have an extraordinarily talented bunch of students here at Brockenhurst College and I have loved watching Cayton grow and develop alongside his fellow students. I’m convinced that what we’ve seen from Cayton is just the tip of the iceberg and I am sure he will go on to achieve great things.”

The College hosts the awards evening every year to recognise the wide array of its students’ achievements and Doughty Engineering, one of many local companies to work with the college to offer work placements, training opportunities and other aspects of students’ learning, was only too pleased to sponsor the performing arts award.

Stephen Wright, director at Doughty Engineering said: “We’re delighted to be involved with these awards. It’s vital that we recognise students who are grasping every opportunity to receive an excellent education. All the students here have achieved so much and have truly made the most of their lives through learning, and these awards reflect that. These young people, as they move into higher education and employment, will make a real contribution to our society.”

He added: "This was the first time I had been back to Brockenhurst College since leaving there myself over 20 years ago and I was extremely impressed, both by the way the site had been modernised to suit the courses on offer and the curriculum requirements, but also the achievement of the students being celebrated on the evening. We take great pride in sponsoring this award – our heart lies within the performing arts arena – we design, manufacture and provide the world of stage and television with the equipment it needs to ensure the technical aspects of putting on a show are in place. But without emerging young talent there would be no industry for us to serve.”
