Bandit Illuminates Firefly Festival Weekend

USA –The Firefly Music Festival returned to the lush, green forests of Delaware with a festival lighting package provided by Bandit Lites. The weekend of music kicked off Wednesday, 14th June and concluded Sunday evening. Headliners for the festival included The Weeknd, Muse, Twenty One Pilots, Chance the Rapper, O.A.R, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Bob Dylan, Flume, Weezer and The Shins.

In their escape to the forest, the 65,000 Firefly attendees were treated to a unique combination of relaxing in hammocks among the trees, a silent disco tent, rooftop lounges, sipping on exclusive Dog Fish Head Brewery ales, and shopping at the festival’s market, all while catching a wide variety of musical performances on one of the festival’s many stages.

Bandit provided lighting for the Firefly main stage, Lawn and Backyard stages. By collaborating with the headlining artists, Bandit Lites production director, Dizzy Gosnell was able to create three festival systems that met design, budget, schedule and space needs for all parties.

“It’s always interesting working on a spec that will work for the bands across any given stage through the weekend’s festivities,” commented Gosnell. “Being able to make the rig nimble enough that it can allow visiting flown elements to come in daily if needed is key. Having a large capacity roof system really helps too; we can fly multiple systems at the same time and trim them high out of the way if needed. Lambda’s Scott Cadwallader and Steve Drymalski worked long and hard on making this 3D Tetris work on the Mainstage, while Joe Gordon and Ryan Tilke on the Lawn and Backyard stages had no lesser task to get some really large visiting elements on their stages daily.”

Bandit supplied nearly 200 lights for the Firefly Stage alone, including VL 3500 Washes, GLP X4, Elation CuePix WW2, Claypaky Mythos, Solaris Flares and two grandMA 2 full consoles.

The Backyard Stage featured Martin Atomic 3000 Strobes, VL 3000 Spots, Claypaky Sharpys, Bandit 5x5s, Eurolites and Bandit’s exclusive GRNLite Moving Washes.

Bandit also equipped the Lawn Stage with Martin Atomic 3000 Strobes, VL 3000 Spots, Bandit 5x5s, Eurolites, Bandit’s exclusive GRNLite Moving Washes, and Claypaky Sharpys. A grandMA 2 full console provided control for the stage, where Kesha, OK Go and The Shins all enthralled the crowd.

“That all of these metal and glass gymnastics actually functioned daily was only made possible by our Bandit crew on site consisting of Carter Fulghum, Elizabeth Weller, Ryan Waldron, Sam Morgan, Vanessa Sexton, Patrick Sieg and Chris Noll, with unswerving Nashville support from project manager Jimmy Hatten who oversaw the build of all three systems,” finished Gosnell.
