Meyer Sound Spotlights LINA Line Array and Immersive Sound at InfoComm

USA – At InfoComm 2017 in Orlando, Meyer Sound will feature the InfoComm debut, complete with live demonstrations, of its new LINA very compact linear line array loudspeaker and companion 750-LFC very compact low-frequency control element. Other company highlights include an ear-opening immersive sound experience in the demo room (W222B) and a preview of a new series of ceiling loudspeakers at the booth (5960).

Previewed earlier this year at ISE, LINA marks the entry of Meyer Sound's LEO Family of line arrays into a much broader market. With its diminutive dimensions (20.27"/515mm wide) and minimal weight (43 lbs/19.5kg), high power output and aggressive pricing, LINA is ideal for all commercial sound applications that require portability, scalability, ease of set-up and impeccable sonic performance.

"LINA shares the same structural footprint as its predecessor, MINA," notes Pablo Espinosa, Meyer Sound's vice president of R&D and chief loudspeaker designer, "which means it can use the same rigging and mounting hardware. However, it's all new, with new enclosure, drivers, processing and amplification. LINA also features Native Mode, first introduced with LEOPARD, that provides out-of-the-box array alignment for common configurations. This is an enormous time-saver, particularly in corporate rental applications."

Demonstrations of an auditorium-sized LINA and 750-LFC system will be held on 15^th and 15^th June at 5pm on both days, in the Chapin Theater on the third floor of the convention center.

The Meyer Sound demo room has been a 'must visit' presentation at past InfoComm shows, and 2017's mesmerising immersive sound presentation will be no exception. With 56 loudspeakers and subwoofers encircling the room and arrayed overhead, the demonstrations will envelop visitors in an engrossing experience that is sure to create a buzz around the show. The demo system incorporates proprietary Meyer Sound technologies, including Constellation active acoustics, SpaceMap multi-channel panning, the D-Mitri digital audio platform and IntelligentDC compact self-powered loudspeakers. The 30-minute programme features live performances by virtuoso New York violinist Brendan Speltz as well as excerpts from multi-channel sound installation works by noted contemporary composer Rand Steiger.

"Immersive sound recently has become a popular buzzword in the industry, but it's something we've been doing at Meyer Sound for nearly 25 years," observes Steve Ellison, applications director for digital products. "Whether it's imaginative sound art installations or Las Vegas showroom spectaculars, we've been on the forefront of immersive audio with a complete toolkit of technologies. This leadership will be easily heard in our InfoComm demo room."

Sessions will be on odd hours, beginning at 11am on 13^th June and at 9am 14^th - 16^th June. Early arrival is advised as seating is limited.

Meyer Sound also will preview the first in a new series of premium quality self-powered ceiling speakers. The first two models, the Ashby-5C and Ashby-8C, both integrate Meyer Sound's exclusive IntelligentDC technology, which combines the sonic superiority of self-powered loudspeakers with the installation ease of constant voltage distributed systems. Both models are two-way designs with wide (100 degree) coverage patterns and come equipped with integrated back-cans and 5-pole Phoenix connectors. The Ashby-5C has a 5" low-mid driver and the Ashby-8C an 8" low-mid driver.

"This is a full-fledged contractor product, and since it uses our MPS series of 48-volt supplies it integrates seamlessly with our IntelligentDC surface mount loudspeakers," says John McMahon, vice president of solutions and strategy. "It's easy to install, has an elegant grille, and the sonic qualities are what you would expect from any Meyer Sound product."

A range of IntelligentDC surface mount loudspeakers also will be shown at the booth, as well as LINA, 750-LFC and a selection of UltraSeries loudspeakers. The Galileo GALAXY network platform will be featured as well, along with important new updates to the companion Compass control software.

As part of InfoComm's education program, Meyer Sound director of system optimisation Bob McCarthy will present "Real-World Loudspeaker Beamforming" at 9am on 14^th June. McCarthy will unravel the potentials and pitfalls of beamforming by delving into the science behind how array size, element spacing, phase, frequency, and constructive and destructive interference affect coherence and directivity.
