USA – Slightly Stoopid may have two decades of touring under their belts, but the genre-busting band still keeps shows fresh and energetic for audiences around the country, pulling from their 12 albums including their recent release 'Meanwhile… Back at the Lab'. Bandit Lites is proud to be providing a lighting package for their current tour.

Lighting designer Scott O’Connor created a stellar design for the funk, reggae and punk rock band by capitalising on equipment that would fill the stage with dynamic, audacious looks, while still allowing for versatility across the various venues and emphasising a ‘less is more’ mindset.

“Bold, solid and minimalistic looks are what the band is looking for this summer,” O’Connor said. “More textures and shapes using angles and colour have been the ultimate goal for this project. I’ve been having a lot fun fulfilling that and creating beauty out of simplicity; a lot of fun!”

Bandit Lites supplied the tour with a package that includes Martin MAC Viper Profiles, MAC Auras, GLP X4S, Solaris Flares and a grandMA 2 lite console for control, while Bandit crew member Jimmy Murray delivers quality support on the road.

“Bandit Lites has been a model of professionalism and efficiency,” said tour manager and production manager Brian Lyons. “It has been a pleasure working with (Bandit vice president) Michael Golden and Jimmy Murray, specifically. Mike Golden took a chance with us. It was a challenge to provide the design that Scott O'Connor submitted and stay within the budget we had to work with. I couldn't be happier with the efforts of the Bandit team to get the gear together at budget, and their willingness to do the diligence needed to get us there.”

“I met Scott through a mutual friend and we seemed to connect immediately,” said Mike Golden. “Scott was very open minded to our ideas and ways of achieving the look, staying within budget and keeping the rig lean and mean for a two man crew. Once he and I were comfortable with a gear list and price, I worked with Brian Lyons who was equally a pleasure. I could not be any happier with this opportunity to work with them both and I sincerely hope to be doing so for a long time to come.”

Referring to Viper Profiles as his ‘go to lamp,’ O’Connor uses them for backlight, FX and textures, while the Flares provide wash and audience light. As for the GLP X4S fixtures, they pack a punch while being compact, making up a big portion of the show.

“Time has been the biggest enemy on this tour,” added O’Connor. “The use of Bandit’s GoGo and Tech truss has been extremely helpful, and in terms of Bandit crew, without my man Jimmy Murray, not sure what else is possible!”

“Because this tour plays such a variety of venues, I knew the daily execution of our plan was going to be equally as challenging,” added Lyons. “Jimmy Murray stepped up and hit a home run. All I hear from him are solutions. In my world as TM and PM, that is all I can ask for.”
