USA – The Rooster Walk Festival isn’t named after the iconic bird that crows every morning when the sun comes up. However, it does represent the dawn of a new day for both a hard-pressed region, and a lot of young people with aspirations in music. Now in its tenth year, the four-day event provides a much-needed boost to the local economy at Martinsville, a small town with the highest unemployment rate in Virginia. The festival also raises money for a local scholarship fund and a programme that provides free musical instruments to high school band students.

UK – On the 6th July Roger Waters performed at Barclaycard BST in Hyde Park London. Water’s show is like BST itself, centred upon a huge widescreen presentation, but there the similarities end. “BST sees the entire stage enclosure, back wall, sides and wings totally covered with LED video; right up to roof height 94 linear metres of it,” explains Alex Leinster of Video Design who provide all the video hardware and infrastructure. “But Water’s show needs a much flatter screen, so we were asked to move the entire back wall section downstage as a far as possible.”

USA – JULY 2018: Bankers Life Fieldhouse was named Conseco Fieldhouse when it opened its doors in 1999. Conseco Fieldhouse replaced Market Square Arena, the previous home of the NBA’s Indiana Pacers. The Bankers Life name was instituted in 2011 and to this day the arena remains the Pacers basketball home. It’s also home to the Indiana Fever of the WNBA and plays host to the Big Ten college basketball tournament, ice hockey and numerous live concerts with big time national acts. Despite its multiple uses, Bankers Life Fieldhouse is most closely associated with the Pacers and their yearly quest to make the NBA play-offs and ultimately the championship. They’re on the right track, having come within a single game of making it to the second round of the play-offs this past season after the 2017 off-season acquisition of point guard Victor Oladipo. France - Spectators showed up en masse to enjoy two exceptional ciné-concerts in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Le Grand Bleu (The Big Blue), Luc Besson’s blockbuster 1988 cult film. The initial performance on May 11th marked the 30th anniversary of the film’s premier at the Cannes Film Festival to the day, with a sold out repeat performance on 2nd June in the 5000 capacity venue, The Seine Musicale. The mesmerising score was performed live by its French composer Eric Serra and a group of musicians specially chosen for the event, with L-Acoustics L-ISA technology giving audiences a truly Immersive Hyperreal Sound experience.

UK – Established in 2000 and having had a five-year hiatus, the Classic BRIT Awards was held at London’s Royal Albert Hall at the end of June. Featuring both British and international classical talent, it was hosted by Myleene Klass and Alexander Armstrong, with a Lifetime Achievement Award bestowed upon Dame Vera Lynn. Other Awards included Best Male Artist and Critics’ Choice Award for 19-year-old Sheku Kanneh-Mason, two Awards two Michael Ball and Alfie Boe and Soundtrack of the Year to The Greatest Showman. Portugal – Rock in Rio was started by Roberto Medina in 1985. This was a point in Brazil’s history when the country was undergoing major changes and moving towards democracy, a political shift that meant that such a music event could be held in a South American country for the first time. Thirty-two years later, Rock in Rio has produced 19 editions and has travelled to Lisbon, Spain and the US. It has featured over 1,500 artists, seen more than 8.5 million people pass through its gates and donated a staggering three million trees to the Amazon. With the recent addition of their latest exhibit, the zoo would be opening a 42-foot, transparent flyway entitled “Criaturas de la Noche” filled with more than 200 short-tailed bats.
