De Toppers Take Over Amsterdam Arena with Adamson and Ampco Flashlight Rental

The Netherlands – Every year, Dutch supergroup De Toppers take over the 68,000-capacity Amsterdam Arena for a string of sold-out shows billed as “the sing-along party of the year.” As usual, the 2018 “Pretty in Pink – The Circus Edition” concerts were among Holland’s hottest tickets so far this year, and it was a substantial Adamson E-Series system from Ampco Flaslight Rental that brought the hits to the capacity crowd on 25 to 27 May.

India – With its massive glass doors and smooth tile interior, the Sri Sathya Sai Premamrutham ashram in Muddenahalli is an awe-inspiring place of devotion. These very same features also make the edifice a highly reflective – and therefore acoustically challenging – space. Coupled with the sheer size of the hall, which can seat close to 10,000 faithful, it was clear that a sound system was required inside the venue to maximise intelligibility during talks, concerts, and devotional activities. For this landmark project an L-Acoustics Kara system, provided by the French manufacturer’s certified distributor provider for India, New Delhi-based HiTech Audio Systems, offered such a solution.

UK – Adam Rhodes has been folk/rock duo Angus and Julia Stone’s front of house engineer for the past ten years. He is also a long time L-Acoustics user, favouring the French manufacturer’s K Series systems for his general touring rig. This June, UK and European production supplier for the Stones, Britannia Row Productions, gave Rhodes the opportunity to expand his audio horizons by trying out L-ISA Hyperreal Sound technology. Not only was he to take on this new experience with little time to learn the L-ISA system, he was to do it at the notoriously challenging Royal Albert Hall, a venue he had never worked in before. It was, he says, “a revelation”.

USA – Founded in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1956, Sacred Heart Cathedral served as the cathedral for the Diocese of Knoxville from 1988 until very recently. It was superseded by the new 1,300-plus seat Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, which was built on the same property for $30.8 million. With assistance from McCrery Architects (Washington, DC), the celebrated Knoxville architectural firm BarberMcMurry designed the space to be both sublime and functional. TSAV is a Georgia-based AV integration firm with international reach, and its engineers worked closely with all of the parties involved to purposefully design the facility’s acoustics and to design and install a sophisticated, high-impact sound reinforcement system. Musical content is capably conveyed by a Danley Sound Labs J3-64 Jericho Horn and four Danley SM80 loudspeakers for fill.

Held in the distinctly quirky venue of The Vaults, a maze of disused railway arches underneath London’s Waterloo station, Sounds and Sorcery is an immersive audiovisual extravaganza inspired by Disney’s Fantasia. On arrival, audience members are given a pair of headphones and an iPod and then invited to wander at their leisure through a series of unique installations created using a combination of 3D projections, elaborate set designs and spectacular lighting effects, all set to a specially recorded score from the City of Prague Symphony orchestra. Australia – With soaring ceilings, cavernous naves, and smooth surfaces of stone or stained glass, cathedrals can present unique acoustics challenges. St. John's Cathedral in Brisbane is no exception, having been bestowed the distinction of having one of the longest reverb times for a chapel in the southern hemisphere, ringing in at a whopping 7.2 seconds; delightful for Gregorian chants or pealing bells, but a sound reinforcement conundrum.
