Germany – In 1796, French troops, retreating through the Black Forest’s steep Ravenna Gorge called the area “Höllental” (Hells Gorge). Although the nickname survives to this day, it had more to do with the army’s predicament than with this picturesque corner of south-west Germany. In actuality, the terrain is quite paradisal with its thickly wooded cliff, streams, waterfalls, and winding trails. Every December, it becomes even more beautiful as the site of the Ravenna Gorge Christmas Market.

USA – When Sellersville Theater 1894 north of Philadelphia sought to upgrade their ageing lighting rig early in 2019 they contacted Artistic Concepts Group, Inc. of Chantilly, Virginia, for a solution and ended up demoing a number of potential fixtures. “Michael Wysolmerski at Artistic Concepts was very patient and brought in dozens of lights to demo,” recounts the theatre’s technical director and production manager, Daniel Faga. “We both knew the Artiste DaVinci was the winner as soon as we saw them in the space.”

USA – A light rain was falling intermittently on the July evening when Citizen Cope took the stage at the Stony Creek Brewery, an outdoor music venue just off the Long Island Sound. Featuring an all-female cast and creative team, the show has a lighting design by Jess Bernberg. Jess comments: “After attending meetings with Maria and Rosie Elnile (set designer), we came to the decision to keep the aesthetic quite open. Whilst part of Rosie’s inspiration for the set was mother and baby units in women’s prison, we didn’t want to create any literal space, instead choosing practical lights to break up the space and adding a sense of uniformity to the lighting design.”

Germany - From 4th to 10th November, Berlin transformed itself into a unique open-air exhibition and event venue as part of a large-scale festival celebrating the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Used to illuminate a 150 metre long artistic Skynet along Straße des 17. Juni, as well as a large festival-ending stage show at Brandenburg Gate, were Elation weatherproof Proteus and Paladin series luminaires.
