Belgium – Musical theatre is always a challenge from an audio perspective: plenty of cues, a ton of I/O, masses of RF, and lots of bodies on stage. But here is the thing: 40-45 is not showing in a theatre. Equally, there is no stage or PA system. Instead, this unique production is set in a bespoke, expansive pop-up just outside Brussels with a 70m-wide blank canvas area, where the 1,600-strong audience, like the show's 50 cast members, is constantly moving – and listening entirely on headphones. At the core of its audio system is a DiGiCo SD7T with expander, running Quantum 7.

USA – St. Augustine Catholic Church sits in the diocese of Richmond in North Chesterfield, a suburb just south of Virginia's capital city. The church's sound system had been expanded as attendance grew but not in a particularly methodical fashion. Deciding it was time to rectify the situation, the church's Rev. Wayne Ball, known affectionately as "Father Wayne," made the same call he'd made several times over the previous 20 years in his positions at other churches when they needed audio services: to Dave Cooke, owner of DC Engineering. When Cooke arrived, he knew his work was cut out for him. "It was somewhat of a mess that had been patched and added to and reworked for years, and it sounded like somebody holding their nose and speaking into a tin can," he reports.

France – The Voice France is broadcast on TF1, the largest private French TV station, during prime time on Saturday nights. Set in Studio 217 at La Plaine Saint Denis, just north of Paris, its stage is the largest in Europe at 2090 square metres, with a 1,300 capacity. As with any major broadcast event, it's a meticulous, multi-console affair, and requires a plethora of inputs. FOH engineer, Jerome Kalfon, and monitor engineer, Alex Maggi, are both working from SSL L500s to mix the show.

USA – The Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center began as an inspired vision to create a civic and cultural polestar in the western suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The vision gained traction with the purchase of an old armoury in West Chester that held the promise of conversion to a 300+ seat theatre. Although the founders had the artistic and civic experience to realise their vision, they didn’t have the requisite audio-visual technical know-how. They brought in national AVL design and installation firm Clair Solutions from nearby Manheim, Pennsylvania, whose team of experts worked with the founders from early conception to finalised design and from installation through commissioning and beyond, including help with the first several events. Because the roof structure of the old armoury could not support additional weight, Clair Solutions also designed, fabricated and installed a customized ground-support truss from which to hang all audio, video, lighting, soft goods and scenery support equipment at Uptown! Laser control becomes much easier now: The Laserworld Group integrates the ShowNET interface as mainboard to most of its laser systems. This means a multitude of new features to those devices. Not only can they be used for direct laser control via Showeditor or Showcontroller (the new professional laser software) through LAN connection, but they also have an integrated SD card that ILDA frames can be loaded onto. These files can then be triggered via ArtNet, DMX, in stand-alone operation and in some units even in sound-to-light mode.
