Ireland – Hill 16 is an open-air terrace at one end of the 82,300 capacity Croke Park in Dublin, Europe’s third-largest stadium. Synonymous with the Dublin fans, the Hill is steeped in history and is considered an icon of Irish sport. Although Croke Park’s primary use is for Gaelic football and hurling, the venue is regularly used to host major international music concerts. Recent years have seen appearances by The Rolling Stones, Taylor Swift, U2 and Bruce Springsteen. The technology that supports the operation of a modern multi-use stadium such as Croke Park must be of the highest quality. Audio plays a key role in the day to day operation of the venue and its management team recently undertook an overhaul of the stadium’s audio provision, including that of the famous old Hill, which it considered to be outdated and requiring constant maintenance.

USA – In 2019, Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida, made the decision to upgrade both their stage and house lighting systems in their main sanctuary, a huge undertaking that meant replacing over 600 lighting fixtures. “We decided to replace every tungsten light that illuminated in the room with an LED fixture,” said Bobby Taylor, technical director and director of communications at Olive Baptist Church, “and for the stage lighting project chose a full complement of Elation LED fixtures.”

Europe – Germany’s Rammstein, icons of Neue Deutsche Härte style rock, have recently launched their first ever stadium tour, mounting 34 dates across 17 European countries, and announcing an additional round of 27 European stadium dates for 2020. This epic run of larger-than-life Rammstein shows supports the release of the band’s untitled seventh studio album, the first since 2009’s Liebe ist für alle da. UK – The spectacular International Convention Centre Wales (ICC Wales) is a joint venture partnership between the Welsh Government and Celtic Manor Resort. In total the centre provides 26,000 sqm of floor space for up to 5,000 delegates, which includes an auditorium with tiered seating for 1,500, a 4,000sqm pillar-free space that can be divided into six sections creating up to 25 different configurations, and an additional 15 flexible meeting rooms. Architecturally, it is a refreshing departure from standard conference centre fare, with a triple height atrium at its entrance and a light and airy feel throughout. It has been designed to engender a feeling of well-being, and many of its spaces have impressive views out across the adjoining woodland.

UK - WL has an unparalleled reputation in theatre lighting having supplied venues of all shapes and sizes for over 48 years. Alongside traditional theatres, WL also works closely with schools and educational institutions. One of these is Bryanston School, which is located next to the town of Blandford Forum in Dorset and which recently upgraded its existing lighting system. The School’s technical and production manager James Henshaw explains: “At Bryanston, there are a wide range of performance spaces, with the main one being Coade Hall which is a purpose-built 600 seater theatre. With 15-20 productions a year, pupils have plenty of opportunities to perform, design and direct. Pupils interested in the technical side are able to join the stage crew to learn how to handle the equipment and design, light and costume a production. As a drama department, we have a fantastic reputation and need to ensure we live up to this, hence the upgrade to our existing lighting equipment.”
