Curved LED walls from Leyard Europe set the scene for NOVA TV news studio

Croatia – Modern and sophisticated technology was the priority for NOVA TV when it appointed Omnivor to design video walls for its new production studio. Three high-impact curved LED walls from Leyard Europe are now integral to the Croatian broadcaster’s award-winning news studio at its HQ.

The move to new premises in the heart of Zagreb presented NOVA TV with the opportunity to create a state-of-the-art TV studio, equipped with the latest video wall solutions that would “deliver an extraordinary result”.

To realise its ambitious goal, the broadcaster approached trusted partners, Zagreb-based systems integrator, Omnivor, which it had worked with previously on software solutions for presenting election polls and social media analysis, and Ominvor’s partner company, Kapetanović sistemi, a leading system integrator and technical solution supplier for the broadcast market, which is also involved in many aspects of Nova TV’s workflow.

“It was clear from the start that LED was the ideal display technology,” explains Velibor Marhofer, Omnivor’s CTO. “It hit NOVA TV’s brief for modern and sophisticated technology, offered better pixel pitch, the opportunity to create curved screens, and a lower electricity consumption.

“After considering a range of LED brands, we selected Leyard because of the high-end profile of the brand, the high quality of its TVF series, which comes with a lifetime warranty, and backed by the Leyard team’s support and professional approach.”

The project, which was completed in September 2022, included multiple LED video walls, three of which were curved. Two 14m x 7m curved video walls frame the central news anchor desk, displaying infographics and background scenery for news, interviews, weather forecast and sports news in high resolution, thanks to the 1.5mm pixel pitch of the TVF fine pitch family of LED.

The content also displays on a further two video walls measuring 23m x 3m and 18m x 3m, comprising 7.8mm pixel pitch flat LEDs from Leyard’s high-brightness Luminate Pro Series.

Low resolution LED measuring 7m x 7m serves as a backdrop to the co-working zone visible behind the main presentation space and display background graphics.

Chief technology officer at NOVA TV, Srecko Husnjak says Leyard was a logical choice that perfectly fulfilled their brief. “The curved LED video walls make an impressive background to our new scenography with modern graphics solutions, presentations and virtual coverages,” he notes. “They have helped increase our programme share and create the visual identity of NOVA TV News.”

“The complexity of this installation, especially handling the curved structures, was always going to be a challenge,” Velibor Marhofer adds, “but a challenge overcome with great teamwork. The advice and support from Leyard’s technical team was superb. And, most importantly, the client was very happy with the result, with NOVA TV complimenting us on a ‘smooth, stress-free installation of extraordinary quality, completed to a very tight deadline’.”
