AEW 2024 and Biffy

UK - Promoted by Live Nation, All Elite Wrestling’s (AEW) first foray into stadium-scale spectacle last year totally blew away the record for such events when they debuted at Wembley Stadium on August Bank Holiday. That they have done so once again this year and exceeded their own record, should surprise no-one.

Defying forecasts over a weekend that saw storm force winds and rain bring chaos to many parts of the UK, the Wembley show was a triumph of spectacle.

“These fans are nothing if not fearless,” said video sdsign owner, Alex Leinster, who oversaw the installation of one of the largest deployments of HD LED screen systems ever seen at Wembley. “The enthusiasm of the huge family audience was amazing, if there was a wind they didn’t notice.”

Further south, in Portsmouth, Leinster also had one eye on the weather as headliners Biffy Clyro performed at the Victorious Festival. A long-time video design customer and unarguably Scotland’s finest exponents of hot sweat rock, Biffy Clyro tore through a mighty set for almost two hours.

“It was pretty wild getting set up ahead of the weekend,” said Biffy’s show designer Richard Larkum. “The load-in Thursday was really tough and caused a lot of stress due to the high winds. But on the night with a band like this, the threat of the weather just gave their show an extra edge.”

“Biffy Clyro brings down the house,” was the tongue-in-cheek headline of the Portsmouth News the next day. “Fortunately for us the wind dropped below the safety cut-off point just a few hours ahead of the show,” concluded Larkum. “Everyone had a blast.”
